This category is for employees of multinational companies who are being transferred by their overseas employer to a UK branch of the organization, either on a long-term basis or for frequent short visits. You can apply for the Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer if you are an employee of an overseas organization that is linked by common ownership or control to the UK entity. If the two companies are not related, you will need to apply for the UK Tier 2 General Visa.
In order to apply for the UK Intra company transfer you need to have a job offer and a Certificate of sponsorship form an organization that is a licensed sponsor in the UK.The approximate processing time for the UK Intra-company transfer is 2-3 months. The maximum period of stay under this category is 5 years. In some cases for highly-paid occupations, the maximum period of stay is up to 9 years
There are 4 sub-categories of the Tier 2 Intra Company Transfer:
Long-term staff - if you have been working for your organization for at least 12 months directly prior to your transfer and are being transferred to a skilled job in the UK to fill a position which cannot be filled by a UK employee. You can get a visa for up to 5 years (3 years with the option to get an extension for further 2 years). In cases where the occupation is highly-paid with a salary over GBP 150,000 this visa can be issued for up to 9 years;
Short-term staff - if you have been working for your organization for at least 12 months prior to your transfer and there is no suitable UK employee to fill the position you can get a visa for up to 12 months.
Graduate Trainee – you can apply under this stream if you are a recent graduate employee of an organization and need to be transferred to a UK branch of the same organization, as part of a training programme. You must be coming to the UK as part of a structured graduate training programme with clearly defined progression towards a managerial or specialist role within your organization.
Skills Transfer –this stream will be suitable for you if you are employed overseas and are being transferred to a UK branch of the same organization to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to perform your role overseas, or to impart your specialist skills to the UK workforce. You are not required to have been employed for a minimum period to qualify for this sub-category. You can get a visa for up to 6 months.
